An effort to bring the Hawthorne racetrack back to life has begun. It started with three people that have race track fever in their blood, Kyle Isom, Gina Gonzalez and Tommy Donahue. A meeting was held for all interested in this endeavor and there were quite a few that showed up.
We have had three meetings so far and new faces are showing up at every meeting with eager expressions on all their faces.
The process of forming a club is underway and the group is looking for members and volunteers to get this club up and running. We need your help to get the race track back to its vibrant, circular, piece of clay. We need materials, labor, equipment, and knowledge of your racing experience. It has been a long time since Hawthorne has had this kind of excitement in the community and it’s time to bring it back. If all goes well we are looking to have our first race next year.
The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the USO building on September 28. At that time we will be appointing officers and forming a new name for a racing club. So, please, come join us and bring your ideas, knowledge, and support. This community needs this racetrack back and alive.
