Wilbur Dean Matheny “Wiggs” joined his parents and siblings in heaven on June 22, 2019 at 90 years old while surrounded by family.
Born January 12, 1929 in Platteville, Iowa, Wiggs was the youngest of Hazel Tamerius and Joseph Matheny’s five children.
Wiggs was a true Iowan at heart, working as a farmhand before being called to the United States Army in 1952, where he served in the Korean War.
After returning from war in 1952, he wed Marsha Helm who gave him his four children.
Wiggs and Marsha found their way to Hawthorne in 1967 where he worked for the Naval Ammunition Depot among other jobs.
Throughout his life, you would always find Wiggs busy working on various projects. He found a love for gardening, antique bottles, carpentry and photography, however his greatest love was his family.
Wiggs was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Earl Matheny and Joseph Matheny; sisters: Ardith Anderson and Mary Lou Walkup and great granddaughter Samantha Hall.
He leaves behind his children: Jill Minor (Jerry), Joni Soma Heffner, Jeff Matheny (Donna) and Shannon Gurule (Randy); grandchildren: Jason Cardenas, Jaime Cardenas, Michael Hall, Melanie Hall, Trapper Minor, Emily Rasmussen, Amy Linton, Tana Gurule, Dustin Gurule, Macie Matheny, Sara Gurule, Molly Matheny, Tori Nepper and Courtney Coppola; numerous great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews in Iowa and his beloved cat, Snoopy.
