On Wednesday, July 3 at approximately 12:05 a.m. Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were dispatcher to a serious injury crash on U.S. Route 6 at the Mineral County mile marker 4, near Montgomery Pass which involved two commercial vehicles.
The preliminary investigation showed that the red 2010 Volvo tractor-trailer had been traveling east on U.S. 6, approaching mile marker 4. It was in the single eastbound travel lane. NHP has determined that for unknown reason, the tractor-trailer left the roadway, reentered the roadway then overturned. It came to a rest across all the travel lanes on its right side.
Approximately three minutes after the Volvo tractor-trailer came to a rest, a red 2017 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, traveling eastbound on U.S. 6, approached the overturned tractor-trailer. The Peterbilt struck the Volvo, splitting that truck into two. Dario Baez, a 53-year-old Madera, Calif. resident was pronounced deceased at the scene.
U.S. 6 was closed for an extended period of time and reopened around 3:50 p.m. on July 3. The Nevada Highway Patrol is seeking additional witnesses to this crash. If you have information, please contact the Nevada highway Patrol Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team at ncwmirt@dps.state.nv.us and reference case #190700180.
While somewhat off topic (accident probably not due to road condition, etc.) We need a 4 lane freeway from Vegas to Reno. The current road causes more driver fatigue – with cars passing etc. – Spend some money someplace besides Reno and Vegas. 4 lane highway is needed to develop Nevada’s oil and other mineral resources. and help in State commerce. Too much focus on roads to AZ and CA
