On Tuesday, Feb. 19, the Mineral County High School GEAR UP Seniors attended a Western Nevada College Campus tour and guest speaker event with Harlan Cohen, NY Times bestselling author of six books, a nationally syndicated advice columnist, and speaker who has visited over 400 college campuses. This event was hosted by the Western Nevada College GEAR UP Ambassador Tawnie Wentz.

“I’ve helped millions of people go to college, find love, and follow their passions. I’m an expert on life transitions.  I love experiencing the highs, lows, and everything in-between.  I’m always working to be my personal best (a never-ending journey)”, per Cohen.

Harlan spoke directly to the students on obtaining their true dreams, risks, rejections, how to strive for ultimate life happiness and fulfillment while navigating through huge life changes after high school and transitioning into college and careers.

In the afternoon, after the Harlan Cohen event, the students were treated to lunch catered by Carolina Kitchen & BBQ Co. in the game room of the student activities center. During lunch, the students chatted with MCHS alumni and current Western Nevada students Emmalee Going and Alyjah Dotson on their experiences at WNC before returning home to Hawthorne.
