An F-18 Tomcat that was rumored to be heading to Lake Tahoe for the new Top Gun movie made its way through Hawthorne Monday afternoon.

Mineral County residents moved to the side for a very low flying aircraft on Monday, when a jet, rumored to be headed to Lake Tahoe for Tom Cruise’s new movie, “Top Gun: Maverick”.

Cruise will bring back his cocky character, Peter “Maverick” Mitchell while Val Kilmer brings back the role of “Goose”.

The plane, rumored to be that of a F-18 Tomcat, which was Maverick’s plane in the original film, made Cruise famous when he gave the iconic quote of, “I feel the need – the need for speed!” Yet, motorists who were stuck behind the Nevada Highway Patrol escorted plane felt anything but.

In the sequel, Cruise will play a captain and flight instructor. “Top Gun: Maverick” is slated to hit theaters across America in June of 2020.
