Jim Kunzi, a water operator and a resident of Hawthorne, died from his battle with cancer on Oct. 23, 2018 at the age of 54.

Jim is survived by his father, Gene Kunzi; his wife, Danell Kunzi (Ritz); his children: Joshua Dobson, Matthew (Trenisha) Kunzi, Cassandra (Joe) Boteler and John (Lindsay) Wachsmuth; his brothers: Mike (Dawn) and Brian (Linda) Kunzi; his grandkids that he adored and lots of nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his mother, Lois; his brother, Eddie and his son, Daniel.

Jim was born in Hawthorne on Nov. 24, 1963 to Gene and Lois Kunzi. Went to school in Hawthorne then went into the U.S. Army for four years. He returned home and worked at Mt. Grant General Hospital and did construction in the community, then SOC as a water operator at the time of his death.

In March of 1990, he married Danell and started his family. His kids were the most important part of his life.

Jim loved sports and all kinds of racing. From stock stars, drag racing, RC cars and was working on an off-road buggy with his son, Matthew. He was a talker, also. He loved to talk to people, even people he didn’t know.

He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
