Carol Webster is the VFW Auxiliary Department of Nevada President for 2017-18 and will be attending this year’s Armed Forces Day parade. In her capacity as President she is leader of six districts containing 21 individual auxiliaries in the State of Nevada.

Webster has been a life member of the organization since 2010 joining under the qualifications of her father George G. Lowry, a WWII-POW and her husband, Lon

Webster who served three tours in Vietnam.

Since 2010 she has held numerous offices, including the charter president for a new auxiliary. During this period of time as auxiliary president, she was awarded President of the Year on two separate occasions. She was also elected as District

President and has served as Chairman for numerous programs.

Carol has two sons, who reside in Michigan and a 17 year old granddaughter and an 18 month old grandson. She loves to cook and collects cookbooks.

Volunteering is also a passion and she does that at the VA Hospital in Las Vegas.

CDR. Larry Hire, State of Nevada State Commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars will also be visiting Hawthorne for the 68th Annual Armed Forces Day event.

Hire served with the United States Marine Corps from August 1966 to April 1969 with one tour of duty in Cuba in 1967 and another tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968.

He joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2350, located in Elko in 2001. While at the post, he has been a junior vice, senior vice and post commander, serving two years in each chair. He has served as the state post commander for one year.

While serving VFW District 2, he has been the junior vice, senior vice and commander, also serving in those positions for two years and All State District 2 Commander for one year.

He has also filled the chairman positions of Buddy Poppy Chairman, Ways and Means Chairman, Scouting Chairman, Resolution Chairman and National Home for Children Chairman.

He is currently the State Commander of the Department of Nevada for the VFW.
