Tyler and Clara Viani enjoy playing in the dirt at Saturday’s Earth Day event.

The weather cooperated with streams of sunshine as the community came out to enjoy the Veterans Park celebration of Earth Day, an event organized by the University of Nevada Reno Cooperative Extension staff and sponsored by SOC and Financial Horizons Credit Union.

A craft fair with booths filled with healthy soaps, make-up, oils and candles were mixed among various food courts which included hot dog lunches to the Dream Team’s cotton candy. Various interactive themed games were offered to join in the day’s fun. Presentations of music from DJ Tyler Viani and other hosting businesses filled the air with excitement, as items of the Earth-day theme abounded throughout the park.

A special plant exchange created space for young ones to dig in the dirt while planting a small plant to take home. Displays of creative artwork and metal talent were also available for purchase as gifts or for home decor.

Hawthorne Utilities brought Chuckie the Duckie, who was available for pictures and local agency groups filled up table spaces as they welcomed guests that came to learn about community programs.
