Mineral County Library has joined Library Ideas network of Public Library websites that offer access to over 13 million songs including Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists.

The Freegal Music Service will allow Mineral County Library to increase the size and diversity of its collection by offering access to over 40,000 music labels from 85 different countries.

Under the terms of the agreement, registered card holders of the library can enjoy unlimited streaming and 3 downloads of Freegal Music tracks in the MP3 format each week at no direct cost via the Databases list at the Mineral County Library’s catalog webpage: . The library is underwriting the purchase of the music. The Freegal Music Service has free mobile apps for registered cardholders of subscribing libraries. The Freegal Music apps are available in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

“We are very excited to offer a service like this that delivers great music, compatibility with lots of devices, and simplicity of use. We think this will be incredibly popular with our patrons,” stated Director Courtney Oberhansli.

“Sony Music has an incredibly expansive and popular catalog and we are really excited to partner with them on this, a very important product for libraries,” said Brian Downing, co-founder of Library Ideas. “The participation of so many leading independent labels will also help the library reach as many patron groups as possible.”

For more information and help in accessing this exciting new service, call the library 945-2778 or come in to talk with staff. Staff members will be happy to help get you streaming your favorite music.
