It’s been a busy start to the season for the Mineral County High girls basketball team. After finishing 3-2 in the Serpent Classic, the Lady Serpents went on to play five games in five days and went an impressive 4-1 in the process.
Emmalee Going led the way with 11 points and 10 players got into the scoring column as the girls knocked off visiting Tonopah 48-32 last Tuesday night.
The Lady Serpents then traveled to play in the Whittell Invitational where they defeated Dayton 55-22 in the first game last Thursday. Perla Gutierrez finished with 25 points and Hailey Lahre added seven points and eight rebounds in the win.
Gutierrez racked up 25 points and Julieanna Williams had seven in a 51-27 victory over Lone Pine the next day. Lahre had a game-high 13 rebounds. Later in the day, the Lady Serpents fell in double overtime to Incline, 49-41. Raynee Knight was the high scorer for Mineral County with 12.
The girls wrapped up the tournament on Saturday by knocking off Mammoth 54-36. Lahre had a monster game with 15 points and 18 rebounds while Gutierrez finished with a game-high 25 points. Williams added nine boards in the win.
Mineral County (7-3) will now travel to Yerington to take on Sierra Sage Academy/ROP on Friday at 5 p.m. They return home to open conference play against Pyramid Lake Saturday at 4 p.m. before hosting Excel Christian on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
