After a 75-35 win over visiting Tonopah last Tuesday, the Mineral County High boys basketball team will open conference play this weekend.

A trio of Serpents reached double digits in the scoring column in the win over the Muckers. Robert McFalls led the way with 16 points, Damien Montoya poured in 15 and Seth Bozzi had 12.

The Serpents (5-1) will open their conference at home against Pyramid Lake on Saturday. The games will begin at 2:30 p.m. with the JV boys. The varsity girls will tip off at 4 p.m. and varsity boys will play at 5:30 p.m.

The Lakers are deep with seniors this year with three guards and one big center. The Pyramid boys like to get their running game going and depend on their outside shooting. The Serpents should match up very well at all positions and are anxious to get started in defending their conference championship.

The Serpents start only one senior but have plenty of experience at all positions with solid bench help. As the preseason favorites, everyone will be looking to knock off the defending state champions. The defense and offense will remain solid, but the key word for the Serpents that will keep them focused is “TENACITY.”
