Mineral County freshman Perla Gutierrez led her team in scoring in all five games of the Serpent Classic last week.

The Mineral County High girls basketball team had a strong showing at the Serpent Classic and finished with three wins on their home floor.

In their opening game, Perla Gutierrez led the Lady Serpents with 11 points but it wasn’t enough as they fell to Battle Mountain 60-36.

Gutierrez was back at it the next day and poured in 25 points to help guide her team to their first win of the season over Dayton, 62-42. Julienna Williams also got into double figures in the scoring column with 12. Mineral County played a tough game against Lovelock later in the evening and took a 48-39 loss. Gutierrez was again the leading scorer with 22 points.

On Saturday, the Lady Serpents bounced back in a big way with a 45-30 win over Lone Pine and a 51-46 win against Yerington. Gutierrez had a team high 17 points in the Lone Pine win and 24 against Yerington, while Hailey Lahre finished with nine in the Lone Pine game. Williams was the second leading scorer against Yerington with 14.

The Lady Serpents will be back on the court with four more games beginning today in the Whittel Invitational.
