In the hype of basketball for all in Mineral County this weekend, one lucky elementary girl took to the floor to represent her age bracket in the district annual Elks Hoop Shoot.

Raeane Johnson, who competed in the 10-11 girls age bracket, would place fourth in the competition. Nevada Hoop Shoot director, Steve McBride of the Boulder City Elks Lodge, stated, “Raeane has many years left to practice and come back even better than she was this year.”

McBride was pleased with Johnson’s performance and how she represented Hawthorne Elks Lodge 1704.

He explained that out of the last four years, Nevada has sent a representative to the nationals.

This year, Tyree Bruce will represent Nevada in Chicago with McBride and Tammy Herrington, Nevada Hoop Shoot Secretary on Saturday, April 22. Bruce shot 23/25 baskets in the 10-11 boys age bracket.

He will represent the North Las Vegas Elks Lodge in Chicago.

The last time Nevada took a national title was in 1996 when 13 year old Elizabeth Consdale representing the Boulder City Elks Lodge took the honors.

McBride stated that the annual Elks Hoop Shoot brought out 29 children to compete in shooting free throws in basketball.
