Jeffrey Noel Van Arkel

Mineral County Sheriff’s Office arrested Walker Lake resident Jeffrey Noel Van Arkel on Dec. 12 after a grant in Oregon made a connection to the Mineral County man.

On Aug. 23, 2005, the Eugene Police investigated a rape which involved a 16-year-old female victim and Van Arkel, who was 25 at the time.

The sexual assault kit was completed in 2005 and routed to the Oregon State Police Crime Lab.

In a press release from the Eugene Police, “the State of Oregon received a grant to test backlogged sexual assault cases and in September of 2016, the Eugene Police received information from the Oregon State police Forensic Laboratory of a possible connection to Van Arkel.”

Van Arkel was found to be living at Walker Lake. Detectives from the Eugene Police Department contacted Mineral County Sheriff’s Office regarding the information and Van Arkel was arrested on probable cause for rape in the first degree and rape in the third degree.

At press time, he remains in the Mineral County Detention Center on $190,000 bond/cash.
