Community Conversation to be Held on Thursday

The Nevada Department of Education’s Office for a Safe and Respectful Learning Environment will host a community conversation on Thursday, Dec. 1 at the Hawthorne Elementary School cafeteria. The program will begin at 5 p.m. Amber Reid, MSW, School Social Work Liaison, will be available to discuss Nevada’s new and more comprehensive anti-bullying law and other topics related to school safety.

Safe School Professionals, Kathy Trujillo and Julia Viani, will be discussing their activities during the first quarter of the school year and the school resource officer, Deputy Michael Barnes will talk about his role in school safety. After the parent’s meeting, the group will attend the Mineral County School District Board of Trustee’s meeting to provide an update to the board and answer any questions.

“It’s important that we get everyone on the same page,” stated Trujillo, Safe School Professional at Mineral County High School, “together we can all create a culture of respect in all Mineral County schools.”
