Mary Slane (Brown) went home to the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, after battling cancer at age 74.

Mary was born Nov. 16, 1941, in Thermopolis, Wyo. to James and Priscilla Brown. Mary grew up on the family ranch on Owl Creek in Thermopolis with siblings Charlotte Hart, Roberta Braton, Jimmie Williams and Clint Brown. After relocating to several areas in her life, Mary spent the last 25 years with her best friend Gary (Butch) Slane in Hawthorne, Nevada. Mary’s favorite times were the summers spent at Virginia Lakes. Whether it was watching birds and wildlife from the camp trailer window, fishing, or just enjoying each other’s company there was no place she would rather be. Mary was known to be a private person but those who knew her seen her kindness, quick wit and a little bit of an ornery side.

Mary is preceded in death by parents James and Priscilla Brown, sister Jimmie Williams, daughter Stormy Lovitt and granddaughter Priscilla Pankau. She is survived by spouse Gary (Butch) Slane, children: Lori Oliver (Dan) and Lynn Ornsbey (Jim) of Thermopolis, Wyo. and Michael Lovitt (Shelly) and Jonalee Roberts (Ben Sr.) of Hawthorne, Nev., as well as 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Foundation for the Blind by calling 888-824-2184 or mail a check to Resource Development, American Foundation for the Blind, 2 Penn Plaza, Suite 1102, New York, NY 10121.
