Class of 1967 50 Year Reunion Meeting
On Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. at the Mineral County Library (meeting room) there will be a meeting of members of the Class of 1967 to discuss plans for a 50-year class reunion to be held Armed Forces day, Saturday, May 20, 2017.

Mexican Dinner at VFW Sept. 29
VFW will be hosting a Mexican Dinner featuring two chicken enchiladas; one taco (chicken or beef); rice and beans for only $7 (donation) on Thursday, Sept. 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the VFW (890 A Street).
Please come join us and visit with friends. With your donation, we will be able to continue to help veterans.
Presbyterian Women’s bazaar coming up
The Presbyterian Women’s annual bazaar will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church, 7th and F Streets, Hawthorne. Soup and pie lunch will be served between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Raffle prizes will be awarded at 2 p.m. First prize is $100, second prize is $75, third prize is $50 and several other prizes will be awarded. There will be a white elephant table available for browsing and new craft items, too.
POW/MIA Ceremony friday
The United States president each year proclaims National POW/MIA Recognition Day. Many states in the USA also proclaim POW/MIA Recognition Day together with the national effort.
We would like to invite every patriotic citizen in Mineral County to join the members of John Franklin Shain VFW Post 2313 and it’s Auxiliary in paying respects and honors to the over 83,000 U.S. Military Members and their Families who are Prisoners of War or Missing in Action since World War II. The ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 at the VFW Post Home, 890 A Street (corner of 9th and A) in Hawthorne.
