On June 15, 2016, Thelma May, a longtime resident of Hawthorne, passed away at Northern Nevada Medical Center in Reno following a struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Thelma was born in Manhattan, Nevada to an early Nevada mining family and attended schools in Nye and Esmeralda counties before graduating from Mineral County High School in Hawthorne. She worked for Mineral County School District as a secretary for 35 years, retiring in 1993. Thelma was very involved in Hawthorne activities, especially the class reunions and painting the “H” above Hawthorne. She is survived by sister Mary Blalock, son Glenn, many grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She lived her life to the fullest and had many, many friends. She will be greatly missed.
A private family service is planned at a later date.
