An affidavit of challenge of political party has been filed at the Mineral County Clerk’s office in regards to the race for county commissioner – seat A.

Cora Towe, who signed the affidavit, states that Wade Barton filed a Declaration of Candidacy as a Republican for the county commissioner seat on March 18.

In her affidavit, she states, “The political party affiliation of Wade Barton was changed from Non-Partisan to Republican on February 10, 2016. Per NRS 293.176 No person may be a candidate for a major political party for partisan office if the person has changed the designation of his/her party affiliation after December 31 preceding the closing filing date for that election and ending on the date of that election.”

“Therefore the candidacy of Wade Barton fails to meet the qualification for the office pursuant to the Constitution or the statute of this State per NRS 293.182,” the statement concluded.

According to the clerk’s office, the affidavit of challenge has been forwarded to District Attorney Sean Rowe for a ruling, which must take place within five days of the filing date of April 1.

Rowe was contacted for comment. None was given.
