Michael Wilding

Michael “Speedy Mike” Wilding born Feb. 6, 1959 and passed away on Jan. 28, 2016. He was the son of James and Maxine Wilding. He died at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Va. after a short battle with cancer. He was a student of MCHS from 1974-1976 and graduated from Kempsville High School in 1977.

After graduating he worked odd jobs to include a glass blower where he made beautiful glass ship figurines and even a glass horse carousel, he found his niche in insulation. He worked for Ayers Insulation Company in Virginia Beach for the next 20 years earning his nickname “Speedy Mike”. After retiring he went to work for Greenlawn Memorial Park inNewport News, Va. where he was head groundskeeper and jack-of-all-trades.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Wilding; father, James Wilding; sister, Melshell Gaffney; maternal and paternal grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles, too many to name.

Surviving he leaves behind mother, Maxine Wilding; sister, Carolyn Reynolds with Tristan and Tennicee; Lawrence Paul Gaffney with Paul and Heather and other family members again too many to name. Cremation performed by Cremation Society of Virginia, Newport News, Va. and received by Gunter’s who did the inurnment.

Special thank you to uncle Uncle Gerald, Aunt Dorothy and family who gave room, board and for taking mom to and from the hospital as well as helping her to cope with all the arrangements. Mike was truly a kind, gentle and loving soul and is missed everyday. An angel who finally made it home.
