When the Mineral County School bus pulled up in front of Hawthorne’s Care and Share, kindergarteners from Hawthorne Elementary School began bounding out, waving their specially made Valentines which were created for their seniors during a luncheon get-together.
Teachers Stacey Madrid and Tara Musselman guided their small students to sit at decorated tables with the seniors who had already left spaces for them to be welcomed in.
As laughter and smiles began, the children were quickly comfortable enough to begin sharing their stories of school, making valentines and explaining some food favorites. Dani Llewellyn was quick to move her body around, showing off a sparkling heart on the front of her pink shirt. Her best friend, Nevada Viani had joined her to sit at a table with seniors, Jim and Renae Billings who were actually her neighbors.
When asking both girls about their favorite part of Valentine’s Day, they admitted it was fun giving away valentines and having a party.
As the room filled up and valentines were shared, it was clear that just a little love from a child can go a very long way in creating joy in every atmosphere.
