District counselor John Gavin discusses the cooperative agreement with Great Basin College and Mineral County High School with students and parents.

The Mineral County School District counselor, John Gavin, met with some high school parent’s and students to review the opportunity of achieving duel credits in a cooperative agreement set forth by Great Basin College.

Gavin reviewed the guidelines and the benefits, which included the high school student receiving college units at a reduced savings.  With eligibility requirements set forth, Gavin mentioned that over ten students seemed to be signing up and headed toward getting a jump on college while still at the high school level.

A packet was provided for Spencer Benjamin and his mother Misty Love and Michael Smith Jr. who attended the evening presentation with his mother Christina Holloway.

Gavin affirmed the excitement in which the school district is embracing this relationship with Great Basin College, in that this can create a college pathway for the students that participate, especially early on.

For more information, contact John Gavin directly through the high school and a full packet can be obtained and reviewed in person.
