serpentsThe Mineral County High football team ended its season in a big way last week, knocking off rival Coleville 78-40 in Hawthorne.
It was a bittersweet night for the Serpents as they ended up missing out on the playoffs and said goodbye to this years senior class in the process. The Serpents finished the year 7-2 overall and 4-2 in conference, one win shy of reaching the postseason. Their only two losses were a 32-24 game to Virginia City on Sept. 26 and a 56-50 double overtime loss to Whittell on Oct .17.

Still, Mineral County wanted to end its season on a high note, and they did just that against the Wolves.

Serpent quarterback Tyshawn Bonner opened up the scoring with a rushing touchdown, and connected with Brady Cardenas early to give his team a 16-0 first quarter lead that they would never relinquish.

Bonner finished the game with nine touchdowns, including two to Tristan Reynolds in the win. He finished the year with a combined 41 touchdowns and no interceptions.

Cardenas finished his last game in a Serpent uniform in style with 10 catches for 284 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Mineral County will graduate six players from this years squad, Brodie Macpherson, A.J. Wiggin, Wattie Balderama, Bonner, Reynolds and Cardenas.
