VFWMineral County residents were greeted by those running for local and state offices at a candidates night hosted by Ladies of the Veterans of Foreign War in Hawthorne.

Each candidate was given five minutes to state his or her platform or to simply introduce themselves to citizens of the community. Over 100 people turned out for the event, including many politicians or their representatives from out of town.

Following the five minute presentation, an informal meet and greet was held where citizens were able to mingle with those who have entered the political arena and possible ask questions or give advice.

“I would like to thank all that came out tonight”, spokeswoman Sue Banks told the crowd. Held close to election time, it was an opportunity for those to be able to finalize their sample ballots and head off to early voting.
