FREE FLU SHOT clinic to be held Oct. 2

The Community Health Nurse, Mineral County Fire Department, SOC Fire Department and State of Nevada Public Health Preparedness, will be holding a free drive-thru flu immunization clinic in October. The staff will be at the Mineral County Fire Station on Thursday, Oct. 2, starting at 6 p.m. and going until 9 p.m. This clinic is open to anyone, age six months and older, that wishes to have a Flu vaccination. Parents must complete a consent form on children younger than 18. There is no charge for this immunization and everyone is encouraged to get immunized against the flu.

RPEN Meeting scheduled for Monday

This month’s meeting will be Sept. 29 at 12:30 p.m. at the Care and Share. The program will be convention news. Please try to be there. It will be a chance to hear new things happening in RPEN. So let’s have a good turnout of members.

If you’re a retired person with PERS you are also welcome to come and meet us all and maybe come a member. We would enjoy your attending our meetings. Also if your still working and are 50 and above and vested for five years in PERS you can also become a member. So come see if you’re interested. See you all there.

Fireworks return to Hawthorne this weekend

Notice to residents: The Western Pyrotechnics Association will be holding its annual event, “Do It” in Hawthorne, Sept. 25, 26 and 27.

Fireworks will begin at 6 p.m. and run till 11 p.m., with Saturday featuring the members showcase.

Victory Garden Club meeting set

The Victory Garden Club will meet at the Cooperative Extension Office on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m.  At 6 p.m. the UNR Coop Ext Class, Caring for Plants will be presented. Bring a potluck dish as usual.

Neurosurgeon to see Mineral County patients

Dr. Deven Khosla of Sierra Neurosurgery Group will begin to see patients in Mineral County at the Mt. Grant Annex building beginning late October.

3.3 Earthquake strikes near Gabbs

A 3.3 magnitude earthquake occurred 12 miles northwest of Gabbs on Friday, Sept. 19.
No damage was reported.

Catholic Ladies Annual Christmas Bazaar

The Catholic Ladies Guild will be holding their annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Hawthorne Convention Center from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The event will once again feature many crafters and vendors, with a wide variety of shopping opportunities. Baked goods will be sold, and the kitchen will be open all day with lunch, snacks and beverages available. Santa Claus will be featured from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A photographer will be there for your convenience, or you may choose to take your own photos.

Our popular all-cash raffle will be held in conjunction with the bazaar. Tickets will go on sale the first of October at $1 each or six for $5. Prizes are $500, $300 and $100.

Tables may be rented for $20. Participants are encouraged to reserve early, as space is limited and tables go fast. For table rental or for more information, please call Jean Justus at 945-2206.
