Catholic Ladies Annual Christmas Bazaar
The Catholic Ladies Guild will be holding their annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Hawthorne Convention Center from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The event will once again feature many crafters and vendors, with a wide variety of shopping opportunities. Baked goods will be sold, and the kitchen will be open all day with lunch, snacks and beverages available. Santa Claus will be featured from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A photographer will be there for your convenience, or you may choose to take your own photos.
Our popular all-cash raffle will be held in conjunction with the bazaar. Tickets will go on sale the first of October at $1 each or six for $5. Prizes are $500, $300 and $100.
Tables may be rented for $20. Participants are encouraged to reserve early, as space is limited and tables go fast. For table rental or for more information, please call Jean Justus at 945-2206.
Hawthorne VFW Poker Run scheduled
The VFW will be sponsoring a Poker Run on Sept. 20. Cost is $25 per hand and prizes will be awarded to the top three spots. Sign-ups will be held at the VFW between 8 to 9 a.m. on the day of the run, preceding a 9 a.m. start. The VFW will serve as both the starting and ending points of the run. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be sold following the run, as well as auction items. Proceeds from this event will go to the MCHS Baseball Team, in order to help them meet their goal of $10,000 to build a 6-cage hitting facility. Please come out to support the cause.
Boys and Girls Club meeting on tap
On Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Convention Center there will be a town hall meeting with special guests Travis Crowder and staff. Travis is the director of the Mason Valley Boys and Girls Club. We invite the entire community to come down and lend your support as we work to bring the Boys and Girls Club to Mineral County.
Lions Club Sandwhich fundraiser slated
The Lions Club is raising funds for community projects and eyeglasses with a “Sack Lunch Special” on Sept. 25. Sandwiches are turkey, ham or a combination of both with cheese; fresh tomato slices; lettuce and onions to add. Included are chips and cookies for $8.50. Tickets are available from members of the Lions Club and at Flowers by Ness.
VFW Football and Finger Food Sunday
Come on down and join the fun at the VFW 2313 for football and finger food beginning at 10 a.m. Sundays. Looks great on our new 55 inch t.v. including all games with the NFL package. Hope to see you there rooting for your favorite team.
Pop Warner Meeting
There will be a Pop Warner board selection meeting at the JPO building located at 525 W. 9th Street on Friday, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. All interested parties are invited to attend.
Photo Group Field Trip
The local photo group known as the Mineral County “Hot Shots” will be holding a field trip on Saturday, Sept. 20.
“It is time to get taking pictures again”, stated Wilbur Matheny, group organizer. “The fall season is a great time to get going again,” he said.
Matheny stated we will try the field trips again in hopes more local residents will want to join in with us to shoot the fantastic mountains and the beauty around us. There is no charge to join the group, just come and bring your family. We will be gathering at Veterans Memorial Park at 8 a.m. on Sept. 20. The park is located across from McDonald’s in Hawthorne. Bring the family and a lunch and enjoy the day together.
We will be going to locations over Lucky Boy, East Walker River, and the Bridgeport area. Come and join us.
