Alice Borland Olenslager

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Alice Borland Olenslager passed away on January 16, 2014 at her residence with family by her side. Born to John Archie Borland and Josie Ann McClure in Saint Paul, Minnesota, she was a long time resident of Mineral County. Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Olenslager, son, Jack Rosemark, daughter, Renee Olenslager, grandson, Jeffrey Olenslager, and siblings, Jack Borland, Herman Borland, Mabel Borland, and Melba Prina.

Alice spent her early teens in Mina and later moved to Hawthorne. She married Vincent Rosemark and had two children, Bunny and Jack. They later divorced and Alice married Alvin Olenslager and together they had two girls, Sherry and Renee. Alice worked for over 20 years at the base where she made many wonderful friends. Alice had such a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle expert, and enjoyed watching the classic movies of Old Hollywood. Movies, as she would say, “that actually left something to the imagination”.

Alice loved her tabloid magazines. The family would often tease her about having the latest edition of the Enquirer and she would laugh and remind us “well, the first thing you all do when you come to my house is sit down with a tabloid in hand and catch up on the latest gossip”. Alice was known to be a last minute shopper and wore her title with pride. She was always the last person browsing the isles of the Hawthorne Variety Store on Christmas Eve looking for that perfect gift. Later, she became the Avon Lady’s best customer.

Alice was also known for sending beautiful notes to her family on special occasions. These are cherished treasures, as she took time to make sure that each note was very special and keepsake worthy. Alice spent many hours working in her flower garden, creating an oasis in the desert. Whenever the family would gather at her home for Armed Forces day, her yard was always the perfect spot for a game of croquet.

Our dear Alice is survived by many family members and friends who will miss her terribly. Daughters, Bunny Andreotti of Sparks and Sherry Clarke (Sam) of Grants Pass, OR, daughter- in- law, Dorothy Rosemark of Clinton, Utah, and former daughter- in -law, Kay Rosemark of Sparks. Grandchildren, Lisa Smith (Paulette) of Sparks, Mark Gunn of Reno, Michael Rosemark (Dawn) and Stephanie Rosemark of Sparks, Michelle Hulbert (Tom) of Reno, Kamie Clarke (Paul) of Grants Pass, OR, Jason Lopez and Kimmy Dominguez (Doug) of Clinton, Utah, and Michael Lopez (Elizabeth) of CA. Great grandchildren, Jack and Evan Hulbert, Brianna, Derek and Jacob Rosemark, Shane Rosemark, Alex and Jason Lopez, Marina Dominguez, and Azariah, Ezekiel, and Emma Lopez.

Alice will forever be in our heart and we know that her beautiful soul is at peace.

Please join us for a celebration of her life on Saturday, February 8, 2014, from 1:00 to 4:00 at her home. The address is 924 F St, located directly behind the Hawthorne Convention Center.
