Ada Fern (Cook) Busby

Ada Fern (Cook) Busby was born March 8, 1932, in a small farmhouse in Shirley, Arkansas, to Kate and Tom Cook. She was one of fourteen children (seven boys and seven girls). She traveled to central California with her family to pick cotton in the summers, where she met and later married, Benjamin ìFrankî î (also known as ìBFî and ìBuzzî) Busby. After getting married to Frank on August 5, 1949, they lived in Hawthorne, NV, for over sixty years, and raised three children; David, Jerada and Diane. When their health began to decline, they relocated to Cascades of the Sierra Retirement Community in Spanish Springs, NV, in August 2011 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Many of you will recall that Ada Fern worked as a cashier in a variety of grocery stores in Hawthorne, such as, the Big T, Joseph’s Market and Safeway. She loved to listen to music, dance, laugh, tell stories, eat and go fishing. Most will remember her for her southern accent, beautiful smile and contagious laughter. If you ever stopped by her home, and many did over the years, you would never go away hungry.

With her passing on Sunday, January 26, 2014, she leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Frank Busby; daughters, Jerada Conely and Diane Bates; sons-in-law, Pat Conely, and Bryde Bates; grandchildren, Jen Conely Caudle, Jason Conely and Eric Bates; and great grandchildren Patrick Caudle, Josie Conely and Cassidy Conely; as well as many other relatives and friends who all loved her very much.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt ìthank youî for all the staff at Renown Regional Medical Center, Cascades of the Sierra and Gentiva Hospice who provided such excellent care for Ada over the past couple of months. We couldn’t have asked for more caring providers.

A memorial service and reception was held in Reno on Saturday, February 1, 2014. Many family members and friends attended to celebrate Ada’s life.

If you wish to make a donation in Ada’s name, the family supports Renown Health Institute for Cancer or Renown Health Institute for Heart and Vascular Health, c/o Renown Health Foundation, 1300 Mill Street, Reno, NV 89502.

We Love and Miss you, Momma!
