On Dec. 5 Spc. Tana Gurule graduated from U.S. Army Basic Training in Fort Jackson, S.C. She was awarded Soldier Leader of the Cycle, which is given to the soldier who held the position of squad leader and who demonstrated outstanding leadership throughout the cycle.

Tana moved on to Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, Ga., where she will complete the second phase of her training.

Gurule joined the Army National Guard in August and left for basic training on September 23.

She is the daughter of Randy and Shannon Gurule and Debbie Gurule, the granddaughter of Max and Phylis McGee, Joe Gurule and Geraldine Gurule, all of Hawthorne.
