Spec. Sheridan Sterling, a Mineral County resident and graduate of Mineral County High School, took time out of his much-needed time off from the U.S. Army to visit with students at Hawthorne Elementary School last week.

Sterling is currently serving with the 101st Airborne Division, known as the Screaming Eagles in Bagram, Afghanistan.

Principal Stephanie Keuhey said that the young soldier spoke eloquently on his position within the military, shared his dreams with the children, and described how the military supports the people of Afghanistan and the importance of all of the rolls and the military. Besides answering questions from the children, who were glad to have a soldier in their classroom, he also told them about the opportunities available to people to receive education under the GI Bill.

Keuhey said it was great to see Sterling focus on the positive aspect of the military and the opportunities it gives.
