Dan Thomas Powell born April 22, 1948 in Hawthorne, NV. He passed away at his home surrounded by his family on October 1, 2023. Dan is preceded in death by his parents Milton Lofton and Dorothy May Huff and his in-laws he proudly called Dad and Mom Ignacio Joseph Leyva and Juanita Leyva.
Dan is survived by his wife of 55 years Josephine Louise Leyva Powell. Sons Dan Thomas Powell Jr.(Mishawn), Leonard Alan Powell, David Weisenberger (Kim) all of Ely, NV. One brother Paul Alan Powell of Hawthorne. Grandkids Thomas Mathew Powell (Caroline) of Reno, Kristen Leigh Ann Smith (Jerry) of Ely, Michael Alan Powell (Amanda) of Reno, and Danielle Nicole Fennimore (Angelo) Cottage Grove, Ore. and Sharla Weisenbergerof Fl. Dan also had 12 Great Grandchildren.
Dan proudly served in the United States Navy and the Vietnam War. Dan began his mining career in Tacoma, Ca. He ventured his way back to Nevada working for several mining companies as a mechanic from the bottom to the supervising. Dan was a very outdoors person, from fishing to big game. There will be a celebration of life in the spring. Announcement to follow. The family would like to thank Rocky Bybee who went above and beyond helping Dan in every way possible.
