Dog Licenses Available in Hawthorne

Mineral County Animal Control will begin selling Mineral County dog licenses for 2020 on Nov. 1. The fees are: spayed or neutered animal $3, un-neutered male $5, un-spayed female $7.50.

Proof of current rabies vaccination is required. Mineral County Animal Control will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, at the Mineral County Animal Shelter at 10 and Armory Street in Hawthorne.

Veterans Day Lunch set for Next Monday

Veterans Day is to honor all who have ever served in the United States Military. Memorial Day is to honor those who gave their lives while serving in uniform. Armed Forces Day is to honor all citizens currently serving in uniform.

The officers and members of John Franklin Shain VFW Post 2313 and it’s auxiliary, extend an invitation to the citizens of Mineral County to attend our Veterans Day Celebration Luncheon, at their post home at 890 A Street, in Hawthorne.

The luncheon will begin at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, following the Veterans Day ceremonies at Veterans Memorial Park at 11 a.m. On the menu will be “hero” sandwiches, savory sides and deserts.

The meal will be free to all veterans (veteran or military I.D. required). The post canteen will be open to the public.

Mina VFW Bake Sale on tap Nov. 11

VFW Post 2668 – Mina and their auxiliary will be having their annual bake sale on Monday, Nov. 11 at the MINA VFW Post located at 1104 A Street immediately following the 11 a.m. VFW Memorial Service at the Mina Cemetery.

All proceeds go to the National Military Services including veterans and family support programs.

The VFW will provide barbecue hamburgers and hotdog lunch at no charge. They look forward to seeing you, but most of all, they remind you to thank a veteran for their service.
