Mineral County residents were residents pleasantly surprised when snow began to fall on the valley floor on Sunday afternoon. As temperatures began to fall, roads became iced over and Mineral County Fire Chief Chris Lawrence reported to the Independent-News that his department responded to two accidents due to the weather. One of the accidents resulted in a Reno transported as a result from one of those wrecks.
Sheriff Randy Adams explained that the weather conditions kept his department busy Sunday night and Monday.
Betty Easley, local volunteer at the Hawthorne Airport told the Independent-News that she measured one and a half inches of snow in her backyard.
Another round of snow is possible today.
