Josephine Simmons

Josephine Simmons, aged 94, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 19, 2016, in Sparks, Nev.

Born Dec. 12, 1922, in Ignacio, Colo., to the late Henry and Maria Isabel Valdez,

Josephine was a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Her life was one of great example. Her faith was strong and her love genuine. She was known for her belief in the power of prayer and her family and friends feel blessed by the impact her life had on them. She was raised in Colorado and spent most of her adult life in Texas and Nevada.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford; their children Gloria and Stanley; and by her first husband, Mabricio Montoya, Jr and their children Emma, Ray, and James and by her sisters Elsie and Ophelia.

Josephine is survived by her daughters: Bernice Villareal, Rosie McCracken, Connie Montoya-Herbeck and Diane Slaughter; her son: Gabriel Simmons; her brother, Henry, Jr. and sister: Ramona Gamboa; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Our Josephine, one in a million, when the Lord made her, He broke the mold.
So many memories left to enrich our lives, each one more precious than gold.
Her laughter, her smile and those beautiful eyes live on. Her life was lived to the fullest. We thank you our Lord for blessing us with her presence.

A memorial service for will be held on Jan. 21, at Oasis Assembly of God Church, 380 J St, Hawthorne at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served, following the service, at the Elks Lodge, 595 E. 5th St. in Hawthorne.
