As part of the “Adopt a Teacher” program at Mineral County School District, Nevada Backroads admins decided to adopt Jamarr Covington, 5th Grade teacher at Hawthorne Elementary School. The programs lets groups, organizations or individuals “adopt a teacher” and provide their supplies for the classroom. As we all know, buying school supplies oftens falls to teachers buying their own.
As just a small way to give back, Nevada Backroads is happy to support and will continue to support Covington, a first year 5th grade teacher.
Thank you Jamarr for stepping up and being an educator for our next generation. This is a national program and anyone can adopt a teacher, at any school, so if you would like to get involved, contact your local school for a list of available teachers.
Mineral County Search and Rescue (SAR) first started the “Adopt a Teacher” with adopting their own member, Ce’arra Richards who is the secretary of the organization. After adopting Richards, SAR put out a challenge to other Mineral County organizations to also adopt teachers in the area. Richards explained to the group at their meeting last Thursday that the money given to her classroom will allow her children “to have great science experiments” this year. The children of Richards class made a thank you card for SAR showing their appreciation.
Donations do not have to be big – simple gifts of items such as crayons, pencils and markers or even tissues.
Elementary, junior high and high school classes can all benefit from the generosity.
