Lions ClubThis year the local Lions Club will be selling their first ever lapel/hat pins commemorating the Armed Forces Day celebration to be held in Hawthorne on May 21.

The pins are red, white and blue and are cast in the shape of the State of Nevada, with Mineral County superimposed over the state.

Inside Mineral County lies Walker Lake with our classic serpent and a star at the bottom of the lake which depicts the location of Hawthorne (and the Hawthorne Army Ammunition Plant), the pins carry the national Armed Forces Day slogan “HONORING THOSE WHO SERVE”, along with “Armed Forces Day, Hawthorne Nevada, May 21, 2016” followed by “AMERICA’S PATRI- OTIC HOME”.

They will be on sale for $5 each – proceeds will be used for carious local Lions Club projects. A booth will be set up at UNR Cooperative Extension Service’s Earth Day Program at Veteran’s Park on Saturday, April 23. The pins are perfect to attach to a hat, purse or jacket and will be available from any Lion from now throughout the Armed Forces Day celebration.
