The 2015 campaign will kick off for the Mineral County High School football team Friday night as they travel down Highway 95 to Tonopah for the Serpents season opener.

It’ll be the first matchup between the two former rivals in more than a decade, and the Muckers prove to be a tough test for Mineral County.

Tonopah is off to a 1-0 start after taking down Sierra Lutheran last Friday 55-26 at home, in a game where their quarterback and running back combined for a total of six touchdowns. The Serpents had a bye the first week and will look to use their freshness in any advantage they can to come away with a win.

Mineral County will be returning 12 upper classmen to a team that lost six seniors to graduation in the spring. They’ll be looking to get to the postseason for the first time since 2012, after narrowly missing out on the playoffs the last two years, despite solid winning records.

Following Friday night’s game, Mineral County will play its next game on the road at Wells before returning to Hawthorne for their home opener against Excel Christian on Sept. 18.

Kickoff for the Tonopah game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
