“Hawthorne, A Railroad Town” will be the name of the Friday night presentation by members of the Southern Pacific Narrow Gauge Historical Society.
Free to the public, this information event will have presentations and lectures about how the railroad affected Mineral County. Joe Coker, a railroad artist, will show his works. Steve VanDenBurgh will share his collection of photographs collected through a slide show. Local resident, Kevin Kennedy, will have two restored maps from 1909 showing the Nevada-California Railroad. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hawthorne Elks Lodge.
Other events, such as going to various railroad towns will be held throughout the week. The cost to join those trips is $45. Residents can sign up at www.spnghs.org.
