The Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2313 would like to thank everyone for their support during the 4th Annual Kick-in for Cancer event. The event began with a 5K walk/run with 27 participants. Each participant received a ticket at the beginning for a drawing which was held after the event. Winners of the raffle received prizes donated by Glamour on Main, Tammy Adams and Mary Stroud.
A bean bag toss was held later in the afternoon with 12 teams participating. There were eight adult teams and four child teams. The winners of the adult teams were Brian Lattin and Jim Fitzgerald who received a beautifully hand crafted bean bag set donated by James and Barbara Edington. The winners of the children’s division were Gavin Burroughs and Seth Bozzi each receiving a water shooter, a slip ‘n’ slide and travel game all donated by James and Barbara.
The dinner, raffle and music completed the evening. The winners of the raffle were Paul Trujillo — $500; Mary Stroud — $100 and Norma Lessard – $50.
Because of the overwhelming support of all of you, we were able to send $1,835 to the Cancer Aid & Research Fund.
Our funding is sent to National VFW and distributed to various research centers in several states (St. Jude Children Research Hospital; Children’s Mercy Hospital; Mayo Clinic Cancer Center; The Jackson Laboratory; and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center are some of the many research facilities that have received funding). The National President determines the research facility and each state receives a portion of their state’s donations to be given to research facilities in their state.
Again we want to thank all of you for your support by attending our event and to those who just donated! I want to also thank those that helped in setting up and working for the event, Mary Stroud, Ana Fitzgerald, Georgie Windsor, Norma MacBeth, Tammy Hamrey, James and Barbara Edington, Darryl Conway, Melissa Danielson and several others that worked diligently in setting up and clearing the grounds ouside. I would also like to give a special thanks to Shayla Ziegler for her help in the kitchen and in serving the desserts.
Let’s give cancer the Boot.

You are my No. 1
So often we forget to thank those that mean so much to us. As a business owner I would like to thank our customers for their support, loyalty, entertainment and patience. I would also like to take the opportunity and time to think the employees for their support, loyalty, entertainment and patience as well. Not only do the employees work hard for the customers but they work hard for NAPA Auto Parts. I believe my customers and my employees are No. 1 and without you we wouldn’t exist.
So thank you Mineral County for your continued support and thank you John Kipke, Russell Blinco, William Jefferson, Linda Holton, Penny Madraso and Deborah Bennet; you are amazing and I appreciate you and the extra mile you walk for the customers.

Open house at the Mineral County High School/Jr. High School was a huge success. We would like to thank all those who attended and were able to visit with our staff.
“The teachers and students are looking forward to a very successful academic year and receiving support from the parents and community will help us reach that goal,” said Mike Domagala, MCHS principal.
Parents are reminded to complete the survey that was handed out at the open house. Completed forms are to be returned to the school.
