- Helen Swanson is on a journey to amend a law, which aims to guarantee equal rights under the law for women, and was a political hot potato in the 1970’s. The amendment needed rectification from 39 states in order to be included in the constitution.

- A 10 year old male sustained fatal injuries in a single vehicle rollover on Spanish Spring road in Cory Canyon area.
- Sixty-one dump truck loads of debris and trash were hauled to the landfill during the Hawthorne Town cleanup. Also taken to the landfill were 26 refrigerators, 36 batteries, 41 gallons of paint and a trailer of old tires.
- Casey Kee and Toby Montoya were part of the “Walker Lake Crusaders” who made it their mission to spread awareness about the current crisis of dying Walker Lake.
- Mandi Schrepfer and Stephen Summerbell were named Queen and King of the Mineral County High School Prom.

- Ed Jones of Hawthorne is the leader of the El Capitan Fishing Derby for 1994 with the catch of a 7.82 pound cutthroat taken on Sunday, April 27.
- Officers of Mineral County Lodge Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Mineral County BMX Association met to sign the final lease contract for the construction of the new BMX race track at the Odd Fellows ball park in Hawthorne. Signing the contract were Manual Souza and Jerry St. Clair. Of the Odd Fellows, Jeri Bunch as notary, Rocky McKellip and Earl Boyd of the BMX Association with Ruth Boy, Secretary to record the signing of the official files.

- Linda Landon was hired as executive director of the Consolidated Agencies of Human Services (CAHS). Members of the CAHS Board on the hiring committee were Amanda Cocarelli, Maggie Tracey, Hazel Brandon, Bill Love, Lucella Mattis, Barbara Harnage and Jo Ann Ferguson.
- The Mineral County High School track and field team traveled to Lovelock and Fallon. First place winners in different events were Glen Weasley 100 meter and 200 meter, Mike Irene, Buzzy Graham, Robbie Diede, and Glenn Weakley, first in 400 relay, Connie Owens, Janet Walker, Samantha Griffin and Debbie Watson were first in the 4099 relay.

- Deputy registrars appointed were Bea LaBounty, Helen Waterman, Eugene Gates and Walter Voorhees.
- The 911 emergency call system was being promoted by the Hawthorne Volunteer Fire Department.
- Ray Massayko, treasurer of the Hawthorne Lions Club presented a check to County Clerk and Treasurer Martha Barlow in the amount of $2700 to be used to build a retaining wall along Fifth Street from the high school fence to Armory Road and to put a chain link fence around the Lions Park.
- All county officers were located in the new courthouse.

- Construction of a ten bed nursing home addition to the new Mount Grant Hospital was Ann.
- Dr. John Denser was elected chairman of the Republican Committee.
- Hawthorne Serpents moved into league lead in baseball play defeating Lovelock 7-3 and Winnemucca 12-9.

- Serpents defeated Yerington 71-1-3 and 77- 3/3 in the dual track meet . MCHS baseball team defeated Lee Vining 19-12.
- Councilman Albert Fick and Harold Wright voted against purchase of a $15,000 fire truck despite arguments of ready approval of a rent/purchase agreement to acquire the equipment. The councilman questioned the validity of the action by the mayor in committing the city to the financial obligation.

- A new shoe stamp was announced by Gayle Perrier, senior clerk of the Hawthorne Ration board.
- Children of the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades of Hawthorne Elementary school enjoyed a party and variety show at the USO where approximately 300 attended the affair.
- Some of the children taking part in the program were: Joann Gerbig, Alice Hanes, Ed Limbeck, Joyce Walker, Homer Beard, Robert Driscoll, Samar Kreimeyer, Nesta Connelly, Arlene LaBounty, and Wiley Griffin.
- Thirty-seven cases of measles, chicken pox, mumps and scarlet fever had been reported by Donald Moore, Mineral County health officer and all the cases had been restricted or quarantined, Moore stated.
- Paper salvage campaign was started to raise money for a city park project.

- Train service between Mina and Inyo County, California, was increased as Southern Pacific announced it would run its narrow gauge train twice a week.
- Lt. D. B. Peters, USN, completed three and one half years service as medical officer at Hawthorne Naval Depot and was transferred to new duty in Denver, Colo. Dr. Peters came to NAD when it was commissioned in 1930, as the first medical officer assigned here. Lt. F. C. Merrill was named as his relief.
- Mineral High baseball team, using two players from Mina grade school to complete its line up, upset Tonopah High 8-3. All but two players on the Mineral County team were from Mina. Leland Eckley was the winning pitcher, supported by Weldon Walsh behind the plate.
- Burkham’s Garage became the local agent for Frigidaire refrigerators, Burkham’s also had the local Chevrolet automobile agency.
