Community Presbyterian Church invites you to worship with us on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at 7th and F Street, or on Linda Young’s Facebook Live. Scriptures for the day are Jonah 3:1-5, 10; Psalm 62:5-12; 1 Corinthians 7:29-31; and Mark 1:14-20. God is not a taskmaster keeping track of our good deeds. Rather, God intervenes boldly and relentlessly for the purpose of life and the restoration of creation. Elder Joe Commerford will present the morning message based on Mark 1:14-20. Mark says: “After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God.
“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news” As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him.
When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebdee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
Bible Study is on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Sunday School classes are available for all ages starting at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. Our new pews are supposed to arrive some time in February. We have been waiting a long time for them. Per Capita dues is due by February 15, and is $46.00 for each member. We celebrate birthdays and anniversaries on the second Sunday of each month with a pot-luck lunch. We will be taking an offering for the One Great Hour of Sharing on Easter Sunday.
