Properly Subversive
Astute readers remember last week we highlighted the Brown Shirts in-the-making that constitute the “Free Palestine” movement in America.
Now comes a troubling incident in Las Vegas last Friday in which these aforementioned Brown Shirts disrupted a speech by Sen. Jackie Rosen at a Hispanics in Politics meeting. They chanted and carried signs outside the venue and then squared up on Rosen inside demanding she explain why she supports the “genocide” of Palestinians by the Jewish state.
The confrontation frightened the audience – as it should because these haters justify violence today based on perceived wrongs in the past.
Rosen, who is Jewish, was hustled out the back of the restaurant to avoid further confrontation and violence.
Look, this may seem like a harmless tussle in the ongoing ebb and flow of American politics. Seeing it that way is a deadly mistake. The “Free Palestine” movement mixes a toxic drink of hate for the Jewish state that seeps into a modern form of antisemitism.
No other way to see it. Beware this hate group.
HARVARD STANDARDS
The resignation of Claudine Gay from her post as president of Harvard stirred up the usual social media blah-de-blah debate about gender, race, etc.
I’m more stuck on the findings – undisputed, by the way – that Ms. Gay tried to pass off the words and thoughts of others as her own. Not once, not twice, but 50 times … at least. Her die-hard supporters say that her serial plagiarism was minor and more sloppy than stealing.
Honestly? This goes way beyond sloppy.
She headed up Harvard – America’s most prestigious institution of higher learning. In that position a single offense of plagiarism in her resume – even minor – would be cause for disqualification. Yet, she will continue as a tenured professor at Harvard pulling down nearly a million a year?
Look, no matter which way you examine the Gay episode, she fudged her way to the top and other than an embarrassing resignation will not suffer any further consequences.
Not a good day for Harvard.
AUSTIN AWOL
We’ve known for a long time that the Biden Administration doesn’t do the military thing very well. Not only did the administration misplay the withdrawal in Afghanistan, they actually made the calculated decision to leave people behind when the operation went south.
Now comes word that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, 70, was hospitalized and in the ICU for the last week and the White House didn’t know a damn thing about it. Also, Austin’s No. 2 was on vacation in Puerto Rico during that time.
Secretary Austin is falling on his sword this week as the facts dribble out. It’s his fault and he’s sorry.
This is a big time screw up. “Sorry”, can’t be the end of it.
ABSURD IDEA
The absurd idea that to protect democracy from Donald Trump by limiting democracy by keeping him off the ballot will be reviewed by the Supreme Court in February. I expect it will be slammed as unconstitutional.
PELOSI, INC
Nancy Pelosi, the 83-year-old former House speaker, navigated a 65% return on her stocks portfolio in 2023. She doubled the S&P 500’s gain. Good money if you can get it.
ONE MORE THING
– What if one day Google was deleted and we couldn’t google what happened to Google?
See you next week. Until then, avoid soreheads, laugh a little and always remember to question authority.
