Dear Editor,

Local Television Stations requiring repairs.

On April 6 another one of the great snow storms came through our county delivering more snow to the surrounding hills. In addition, the wind blew hard. The result of the weather conditions caused considerable damage to the local Over-The-Air TV reception on TV Hill and channels 2, 4, 5, and 8 were no longer received. In order to make some service assessable, it was necessary to re-channel the stations. Which was done.

Thanks to the county road department, the wash out in the road up to TV Hill was repaired. Thank you Erik and crew. However, at the top, there was still 2 more snow banks to work through to gain access to the TV Hill Site. This last weekend, success!!! The top of the hill was finally concurred and the situation was accessed.

As of this publication, the repairs are close to being completed and they are working to complete the job. By the time you read this in the paper, Hawthorne should be back in on the air. When it is repaired, everyone in Hawthorne that is receiving over the air television will need to re-scan their televisions to receive the signal.

The next step is to re-direct the signals back at Thorne and the Mina/Luning Sites. At the time of this printing, we are not sure when it will be worked in the schedule, but it will be soon. And as in Hawthorne, you too will have to re-scan your televisions to obtain the new signal.

Postings will be made on the Facebook page as everything comes back to normal. When you hear the word, please share with your friends whom you know watches the over the air television so they too can re-direct their televisions to the new location.

We thank all of you for all your patience as everyone is working to get the signals repaired. We know it’s been a trying time when your favorite show is not available. But it was totally out of our hands. And for everyone from the engineer to the board members that has worked so hard to get everything back running, a big THANK YOU.

Dear Editor,

I realize I’m a little late, but I wish to thank the many volunteers who work so hard to make the 2023 AFD a success.

irst of all, I’d like to thank the AFD committee. Brenda Jones, and Dana Thomalla really stepped up to get things done! ( By mentioning them first, maybe I’ll get that Rib Steak Dinner!) Traci Paulson worked long & hard hours getting vendors signed up, taxation paperwork done, & vendors positioned! ( Not to mention the many friends she spoke to on the phone, the miles she walked, & her cute “ Future BRONCOS Fan!” Mike & Dawn Kunzi also helped with vendors and created the beautiful parade trophies! ( They’re retiring, but maybe we can all talk them out of it!) Alicia Dalton headed up the kid’s activities, especially the bounce activities on the MCHS football field! ( I also wish to thank her volunteers and I know she needs more!) Amie Clark took it upon herself to create the Hawthorne Patriotic Heroes Float; also thank you to the car club for helping purchase plywood! My good friends Michelle Hart, Kellie Rosemore, Juanita Diede, Cassie Hall, Glen Bunch & Search and Rescue volunteers; thank you all so much! I’d like to thank Trish Schumann & Carol Muger for creating the patriotic kids parade of bikes, scooters & side by side!

Thank you to Kathy Chidester, as well as Radio Goldfield. I also wish to thank Gary Moody & Wade Barton for hanging the street banners, as well as Tom Gallegos, “Gunny Utterbeck, & Ben Miller for putting up the street flags! Thank you to Betty Easley who’s volunteered these many years at the airport getting the static display organized; thank you to the crews who brought the helicopters to our litter community! I’d like to thank the elementary school staff & performers for the patriotic concert. I especially wish to thank Jerilynne Lande for her beautiful AFD Quilt (Congratulations on winning Best of show @the Art Show!) I wish to thank the Art Show volunteers: Don Banfield, Linda Larson, Phillis Lamb, Janna & Todd Erwin, as well as our artists, crafters, & photographers. I wish to thank Brandy Keenan & Keri Justus for opening up their doors for the art show, as well Keri mapped the vendor location. I’d like to thank Drew Scharr for printing the flyers. I wish to thank Jim Pruss & the Boy Scouts for the historic flag ceremony!

Thank you to the El Capitan for the beautiful AFD fireworks show! Finally, I wish to thank Tina Nelms, Felicia Skvarna, and Ann Kee for their many years working on Miss AFD! Thanks to all the lovely, patriotic participants! ( Myself, I’d give them all a sash & crown!) Now, I know I’ve missed some folks, but I’m an old person so give me a break; but thank you to the unnamed judges & other unmentioned, often I unthanked, Volunteers! It requires a lot of people, volunteering their time & efforts to present this event. Soon we’ll be working on the 2024 ARD celebration, please volunteer! God Bless You & may you have a safe, healthy summer!

Dear Editor,

Dear Hawthorne (the Desert Rose)

Thank you all for showing Fern & I such kindness & hospitality on the Armed Forces weekend. First to Jack & his manager, Sandy, at Hawthorne’s Best Inn not to busy to print the first edition of our Producer Fuels Group Newsletter- Jack sent us onto the Mineral County Library where Courtney printed 70 copies & fixed us up with a stapler, table $ chairs to assemble our 2 page newsletter.

We distributed our newsletter to the parade as they anxiously waited for the festivities on Main Street to begin. Not once, as we distributed, did we “interrupt ‘’ someone who was staring at a “smartphone”. We were greeted with smiles, interest & excitement in our new venture & ideas regarding powering engines & vehicles with alternative fuels.

I also enjoyed Nathan, from Schurz at the Indian taco stand. He taught me my first word in the Paiute dialect “ Pabee” (brother).

Hopefully, Our Good Lord, will continue to open doors for us in Hawthorne as we progress in this venture. Fern & I look forward to meeting more Rose-Buds in the near future.

For updates & newsletters write to: Producer Fuels Group, P. O. Box 4300, Georgetown, Ca 95634.

Thanks to you all

Joe & Fern Jordan
