Dear Editor,
Thank you to the people and especially to the parents who brought their children to the airport on Armed Forces Day in support of our military and to let them know why we have Armed Forces Day. The members of the Nevada Army National Guard really enjoyed meeting everyone.
A big thank you goes to Nevada Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Ondra Berry, for his total support of Hawthorne’s Armed Forces Day celebration. Thank you to all the members of the Nevada Army National Guard at the airport, parade, and those behind the scenes who made it possible. SFC Erick Studenicka, Nevada National Guard Public Affairs, was the one who was my rock in all the planning with the military to make it happen.
Thank you Care Flight with the helicopter support. Unfortunately, the REACH Pilatus PC-12 was called on a medical flight and couldn’t come.
Also thank you to the Hawthorne Fire Department and the Base Fire Department for having a fire truck and ambulance on site as required by DOD.
The airport open house was made possible by these people and without them, it wouldn’t have happened: Tony Hughes, Jim Holland, Public Works maintenance call-out Chris when fueling the Lakota, Sharon Funck, Sandy Goetze, and Mike Moore. Bert Crawford and Peggy Kirchgassner at the last minute Saturday morning, pitched in to help finish the setting up when I wasn’t able. Dana Tommila worked with me from the Armed Forces Day Committee side.
Thank you Erick Hamrey and crews for having the airport in tip-top shape.
Thanks from Betty Easley, Armed Forces Day Airport Open House Coordinator.
