Edward “Ed” Nicholas Engel, Jr.
Edward “Ed” Nicholas Engel, Jr., 77, of Hawthorne, NV passed away unexpectedly in his home on September 8, 2022. Ed was born February 14, 1945 to Edward N. Engel, Sr. and Margaret Patterson in Davenport, Iowa. Ed graduated in 1964 from West High School in Davenport. After graduating he enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 1964. He was stationed at NAD Marine Barracks in Hawthorne April 1965. Ed later met and married Janice Monk of Hawthorne, Nevada in 1966. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1967-68, where he received the Purple Heart and Naval Commendation medal from his service in the Battle of Hue City.

Ed worked and retired from Sierra Pacific Power Co. with 34 years of service. He was an avid golfer, connoisseur of food, loved traveling, especially back to his hometown of Davenport, but his greatest love was his family. He was instrumental in setting up the NAD Marine Barracks Reunions (1989-2010). He was proud to be a Marine and kept in contact with his fellow Marines. Ed was active in the community, belonging to several organizations and was a member of First Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister, niece and nephew all of Davenport Iowa. He is survived by his wife Janice of 56 years, daughters Janell (Joe) Carlos, Melissa (Jason) Cardenas, his grandchildren David Carlos (Dean Muir), Alicia Carlos, Jordanne (Dominik) Martinez, and Bailey Peña, step-grandchildren Brady and McKenna Cardenas. He is survived by several nieces, nephews from Nevada, Iowa and North Carolina.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on September 16, 2022 at First Baptist Church located at 8th and C Street in Hawthorne NV. Graveside services will follow with a potluck reception at the Elks Lodge.
