Submitted by Keith Neville

The 2017 legislature passed NRS Chapter. 386 (AB 451) which required school board trustees to successfully complete a minimum of six hours of professional development courses during their first and third years of service. Prior to that law being passed the Nevada Association of School Boards initiated training at all their conferences to help school board members become knowledgeable of their duties and responsibilities. Extended studies at UNR and Pool Pac got on board and offered a Certified Public Official program for all elected public officials. Once a public official completes seventy hours of courses he or she can earn the CPO designation. Keith Neville finished his CPO designation courses on Feb. 3 and will receive his certificate of completion at a later date. He is the first elected official from Mineral County to receive that designation.

On another note Neville was elected to the NIAA Board of Control in January of 2017. He represents the twelve counties in rural Nevada. Again, he is the first person from Mineral County to be elected to this post which is a three year term. Information about the NIAA may be found at the NIAA website.
