Woman Turns Herself in After Larceny Investigation

Proactive policing paid off for the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office over this past weekend when Deputy Matthew Goodrich was able to conclude a crime on a positive outcome. On Sept. 14, approximately $700 cash was taken from the wallet of a victim while he was sleeping. Following leads around town, Goodrich put word out that he was looking for the perpetrator in the crime. On Monday, Sept. 22 after hearing that Goodrich wanted to contact her, Tanya Curtis, went to the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office to make contact with the deputy. The crime she was being interviewed for was alleged larceny. Goodrich stated he was impressed with Curtis’ maturity and integrity; she sought him out and provided him information of her involvement in the alleged larceny. It is his hopes that Curtis can move forward and put the incident behind her. He reminds those that she is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law. More Bear Cases Reported in Town

Bear sightings in Mineral County have become more frequent after conditions in the outlying areas become scarce for the large mammals. Residents around the 100 – 200 blocks of B Street have noticed they have a nightly visitor who has yet to show their face during the day time. Information Sought on Shot Bear Near River

The death of a female black bear has prompted two wildlife groups to offer at $3,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who illegally killed the bear in the East Walker River area. Earlier this summer, the radio-collared bear was shot and killed, sometime around the weekend of July 18-19 near the Flying M Ranch. She was killed prior to the opening of bear season in Nevada. The raid on the Road Runner Motel in Schurz last Tuesday left a pondering question, “What is the value of the marijuana plants, dried marijuana and hash oil worth?” According to Sheriff Stewart Handte of the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office, he values each marijuana plant at $3,000, conservatively, regardless of size or condition.
