The AFD Gallant Talent Show is coming to the Hawthorne Convention Center very soon. This year’s theme is “Be Brave and Entertain”, so get your registration sheets turned in before May 11, 4 p.m. at the Independent-News office, located at 420 Third Street, Suite B in Hawthorne.

Forms can be found at the newspaper office, Patricia’s Thrift and Estate Store, Souled Out, P & P Hair Designs and Mr. Beane’s or they can be seen posted at various public information boards around town. Elementary school students were sent home the entry forms and the high school office has a display with forms.

All participants from Mineral County are invited to be a part of this special evening, but pre-registration is required to sing, dance, perform magic, jokes or play instruments. Why not do a skit or an original reading? Use whatever unique talent you may have, as you register as a group or a single performer. Be creative and costumes are encouraged.

You must be pre-registered to perform, so the three categories can be properly arranged before dress rehearsals. Elementary-aged children will perform first, with judges awarding early, so the kids can stay or leave. Junior high and high school performances will be next, then adult performers. Each of these three categories will have three winning spots, with each first place taking home $75; second place $50 and third place $25. Certificates will accompany each win, plus bragging rights.

This year’s show will have a show admission fee of just $1 per person, held on Wednesday, May 16 beginning at 6 p.m. All donations will be applied to the Armed Forces Day Talent Show costs and the mandatory dress rehearsal is on Monday, May 14, at 6 p.m. everyone is encouraged to perform or attend in support of our community talents.
