The Mineal County boys handed the visiting Sierra Lutheran squad its first conference loss in an exciting game on Saturday. The final score was 62-60.

The Serpents were down 60-55 with 25 seconds left in the game when Vic Montoya hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 60-58. As the ball went through the net, Mineral County called its final time out to freeze the clock with 17 seconds left. The Serpents put full court pressure which caused an errant pass, a steal and a missed lay-up by the Falcons which resulted in a scramble for the ball that the Serpents came up with. Robert McFalls went on to make a floater in the lane to tie the game 60-60 with eight seconds to go.

The Falcons then entered the ball and a pass down the sideline was intercepted by the Serpents, and a quick pass was made to Seth Bozzi under the basket who made the winning shot with two seconds as time ran out. Wow – seven points in 25 seconds to win the game.

McFalls led the Serpents with 21 points and 11 rebounds and four assists in the win. Bozzi had 17 points, eight rebounds and fourblocks. Montoya had 10 points.

Damien Montoya had a tremendous game with four points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Tony Dominguez had six points, all in the second half, and held the Falcons leading scorer to just two points in the second half.
