Mineral County Sheriff’s deputies took five local children on a shopping spree and treated them to lunch during a trip to Fallon last Friday.

Friday was a busy day for local Mineral County Sheriff’s deputies. Instead of a crime spree, deputies were busy taking five Mineral County children on a shopping spree in Fallon for Christmas.

The event pairs local children in need with sheriff’s deputies to help make the Christmas holiday a little more exceptional for children who might otherwise be overlooked this holiday season.

The children were taken to Wal-Mart in Fallon for their shopping event and were also treated to lunch by the deputies. The bonding between child and officer teaches the child to be able to speak with the officer in less stressful situations.

Not only do the children purchase items for themselves, but may also take the time to gather gifts for loved ones.

Sponsored by the Mineral County Sheriff’s Deputies Association, the project is funded by monies raised by the deputies and also by those donated by the community. The event teaches both the children and deputies the true spirit of Christmas which is giving, rather than receiving.
